About Us Page

Hi! Welcome to my family website! Here you will find the most of our great family history, the places we visited and people we know. Our journey to Vancouver was long and exciting. As we stepped off the plane from Moscow, we traveled from Montreal to Toronto, then, to Winnipeg. Spending 2 years in this snowy city, we met many people from various cultural backgrounds and found Winnipeg and Canada very friendly and interesting place to be. When my older daughter finished High School with honors, we traveled to Vancouver: children by plane, and my husband and me drove across the country. Along our way we saw all of landscapes of this country: the prairies, grain fields, forests and mountains. First, it was hard do it all over again: get to know the city with its own cultural values and preferences, but we overcame it by seeing the true beauty of Rockies and the sky-blue Ocean. Currently, my husband has an exciting job in area of physics and daughters are in school and university. If this little preface got you interested, be sure to scroll over the rest of the site that has more stories and photos on our family history.

When I came to Winnipeg I started to work for The North West company, Information Systems, Store Support Department. This company is one of the oldest in Canada and traces its roots back to the first trading post in North America. The original North West Company was a partnership of Montreal-based entrepreneurial traders formed in 1779.  In 1992, the Company acquired the Alaska Commercial Company and now operates 26 stores in rural Alaska trading under the names AC Value Center and AC Express Center., Now the North West Company is the leading provider of food and everyday products and services to remote communities across northern Canada and Alaska. The North West Company is privileged to serve some of the most unique customers in the world. They live in communities that are physically very small and very distant -- a few hundred or thousand people living hundreds or thousands of miles away from the rest of North America. Company operates in 5-hour zones and about 200 stores.
Since my husband got a job in Vancouver , I decided to upgrade my education in CDI College of Busines and Technology, where I studied Canadian business, new software, languages, project development cycles, and documentation. Doing well with my studies I had a 93% average for tests and projects. During 2 months practicum in Synergy Consulting Ltd, I got new experience in area of Internet development. I worked on the TimeServer Project which is an Internet base application with database integration and reports. It is designed using JavaScript, VBScript, ASP Technology, SQL, HTML/DHTML and CSS.
At present I am working in Eloquent Systems Inc. We develop unique software with advanced database and Internet technology for small and big collections. Our clients are libraries, archives, galleries and museums. Over 1,000 organizations around the world have installed and enjoyed licenses of Eloquent software products over the last 20 years. Their applications have large amounts of comprehensive and sophisticated data, usually of the type that needs to be professionally organized and indexed in accordance with international standards.
Anatoly Great Vancouver, Delta, 2000        In Russia Anatoly taught many kinds of quantum mechanics at the Radiophysics Department of N.I. Lobachevsky State University. The Radiophysics Department was founded in 1945 on the wave of a radiolocation boom in response to the radioelectronics challenge from the West, the birthplace was chosen thanks to the famous Nizhny Novgorod Radiolaboratory, the first in Russia. The Radiophysics Department is an intellectual core and an educational centre of the Nizhny Novgorod big scientific and technological complex in the field of electronics.
Anatoly has Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and now works in the D-Wave Systems Inc. as a Staff scientist on some applications of quantum physics and optics to the computer science and technology. Based in Vancouver, Canada, D-Wave is leading the work of 63 internationally recognized European, Canadian, and American corporate and academic collaborators. D-Wave is building a new type of ultra-fast computational machine – a superconducting quantum computer - whose speed will be far in excess of any current or future silicon-based processors.
Masha ’s first school was #47 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where she finished 9 classes but she spent most of her grade ten in Technical College. This school was famous for its high BC, Buntzen lake,2000  level of academics in the city and the province. When Masha came to Canada she went to Glenlawn Collegiate where she spent her most exñiting years of school. Being one of the top-grade students, she found time to participate in many after-school activities such as School Web-Page Club, Graduation Committee, and Theatre Production. She was twice honored with first place in school’s Computer Science contest and received a generous scholarship from University of Manitoba but had to decline it since we moved to Vancouver. Masha spent her first year in Langara College and now she goes to UBC’s Commerce faculty. Masha have always been the most creative person of our family. She loves to do various artworks and enjoys professional Russian decorative painting Gorodetz. Other hobbies include sewing, fashion design, clay modeling, collecting pencils, and writing “Card” style poetry. Currently, Masha and Len are working on an extremely funny and interesting book about kids of all ages living on one street and everything that happens to them. Two years ago she suddenly showed interest in band named Ivanushki International and designed a web site about them. She made that funky papier-m?ch? wolf for the movie “Delicate Cutting” which also features some of her school paintings. Masha currently works in McDonald’s and likes it a lot.
Lena is the most musically talented in our family. She plays the clarinet in the band and BC, Lynn canyon, 2000     balalaika in the Russian center. She also sings in the Sir Winston Churchill's junior choir.
Len loves to read books, in both Russian and English and write stories. Currently, she is writing a novel with her sister and her own story about potatoes. She has lots of ideas and plans to use them all.
Len collects almost anything; yogurt cans, Freestyle LEGO, bookmarks, diaries, business cards, socks, rocks, Popsicle sticks, stuffed toys, Arthur cartoons and dust.
She also loves to go to the movies, watch Television (especially Arthur cartoons), play badminton, make 'amazing' snacks, and watch comedies or tragedies. Her favourite movie is Titanic, she even sank a Titanic model in the bathtub on April 15th.

Shurik He likes water, 2001     My youngest daughter asked so many times for a pet that we had to make that decision. We adapted a kitten in August 2001, when he was 2 months old.  He was weak, sick, scared, refused to eat anything. The trouble with a kitten is that eventually it becomes a cat:). Now he is mature, lovable, playful and cute. He is proud of his  very long tail and he has wonderful fur coat, white in front and tiger on his back. He takes good care about his appearance. Our pet loves to roll onto his back for a tummy rubbing. He understands that we are saying by the tone of our voice. And certainly he knows a lot words,  "fish" is his favorite. Every member of the family shares the responsibility for taking care of him. Shurik knows our schedule so well that he wakes up a few minutes before alarm is due and wait for me to greet  me on my way to the bathroom. He always distinguishes Masha footsteps.
Shurik developed his own webpage as a member of our family.
